Educational Opportunities Abound

Christina Wichman, DO, FACLP, 2018 Scientific Program Director

Welcome to CLP 2018—Branding C-L Psychiatry: Defining the Breadth and Depth of Our Subspecialty.

Those of us who were here yesterday have already had a taste of what’s in store.

An exciting program full of educational opportunities awaits us over the next few days, starting from this morning with a line-up of Skills preconference courses, and repeats of yesterday’s Essentials of CLP courses.

Our six plenary session speakers, nominated by our special interest groups, have been working with a speaking coach to hone their TED-style speaking skills.

And there’s an abundance of space here at the gorgeous Caribe Royale for social gatherings and networking. So much space, in fact, that this year the posters will remain up for 48 hours, enabling us all to take a second look outside the Thursday early evening dedicated program time slot (5:15–7:45pm).

In addition, this morning, a Getting Started with Research session (8:00am, Bonaire 7 & 8) will focus on how to design and start research and quality improvement projects. This session is free of charge, however, registration is required. Please note there is no CME for this session. Visit the Registration Desk if you want to attend but haven’t already registered.

This evening, a special session, only for Academy members, will be held on mentorship from 7:00pm in the Grand Sierra Ballroom of the convention center. Maximizing Mentorship Relationships Throughout Our Careers is an interactive session for members at all stages in their career who are seeking to enhance their mentorship relationships—both giving and receiving mentorship. Pre-registration and allocation of breakout groups was encouraged but “latecomers” without a booking will be welcomed.

Do make sure you also have in your schedule the Hackett lecture from this year’s award-winner, José Maldonado, MD, FACLP, FACFE, on Friday at 1:15pm in the Grand Sierra Ballroom.

The Lipsitt workshop this year is scheduled for Friday (at 4:00pm in Bonaire 7 & 8). This year we will discuss the real-world implementation of integrated C-L psychiatry in a cancer center and linked palliative care service.

Finally… from among the array of receptions, lunches and social mixers, you won’t want to miss the free-to-all-comers Awards Ceremony champagne toast reception, from 5:35pm on Friday in Caribbean V.

If you haven’t already downloaded the CLP 2018 app to keep track of the full program you can do so here.

We’ll also be updating you on what’s to come in our daily edition of CLP 2018 Daily News each morning in your inbox—and include pictures from the day before!

I look forward to seeing you all again—or meeting you for the first time—here in Orlando.
