Description of Program

Welcome to Rush University’s one-year ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry. Our mission is to improve the health of the diverse individuals and communities we serve, through integration of outstanding patient care, education, research, and community partnerships. Our program is seeking its inaugural Fellow to start July 1, 2020.

Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) is a 664-bed academic and tertiary care medical facility, with a vast array of medical and surgical specialties. Our team has strong working alliances with other disciplines across the hospital, setting the stage for robust inter-professional learning and collaboration, which in turn yields a wealth of research and quality improvement opportunities. By the end of training, the Fellow will have developed a robust foundation for independent practice and board certification in CL Psychiatry.

Reflective of our commitment to patient-centered care, in September 2019 Vizient ranked RUMC as providing the highest quality of care in the country, compared to the other ninety-three academic medical centers that ranked in the study.

Our Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry offers a number of unique opportunities: 1. Rotating on our hospital inpatient substance use intervention team, which also has two board-certified medical toxicologists; 2. A one-month dedicated block in psycho-oncology and two one-month elective blocks that facilitate exploration of sub-specialty areas within CL Psychiatry (e.g. epilepsy, medical intensive care, others ). 4. The fellow shall have no emergency department duties and no on-call requirements. 5. We have three board-certified CL psychiatrists, and three Med-Psych trained physicians, and our total FTE for CL Psychiatry proper is 4.7. 6. The Fellow's development and participation in a Quality Improvement Project, provides an opportunity to leave a legacy of enduring contribution in a personalized way.

We cherish our team’s camaraderie, and ethos of equity and respect. Rush University is located in the beautiful, multicultural, vibrant city of Chicago, known for its architecture, musical- theatrical-, and fine-arts, as well as culinary creativity, outdoor activities, and Midwest charm.

We encourage and invite you to contact us for complete information and details about our Fellowship Training Program in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
