Description of Program

Welcome to Rush University’s one-year ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry. Our mission is to improve the health of the diverse individuals and communities we serve, through integration of outstanding patient care, education, research, and community partnerships.

Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) is a 664-bed academic and tertiary care medical facility, with a vast array of medical and surgical specialties. Our team has strong working alliances with other disciplines across the hospital, setting the stage for robust inter-professional learning and collaboration, which in turn yields a wealth of research and quality improvement opportunities. By the end of training, the fellow will have developed a robust foundation for independent practice and board certification in CL Psychiatry.

Reflective of our commitment to patient-centered care, in 2022, Vizient ranked RUMC #3 among 107 major academic medical centers in their Quality and Accountability Study, marking our ninth consecutive year in the top five and making us the only academic medical center in Illinois to rank in the top five.

Our fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry offers a number of unique opportunities:
-Inpatient rotation with the substance use intervention team, which also has board-certified addiction medicine physicians and medical toxicologists
-Subspecialties in transplant psychiatry, psycho-oncology and neuropsychiatry (specifically in epilepsy and movement disorders)
-No required emergency department duties, but opportunity for an emergency psychiatry elective
-No on-call requirements
-Working with both CL trained psychiatrist and medicine-psychiatry double boarded physicians
-Development and participation in a quality improvement project which provides an opportunity to leave a legacy of enduring contribution in a personalized way

Our inpatient CL psychiatry team is an excellent learning environment for residents and medical students and provides the fellow many opportunities to both teach and learn.

Rush University is located in the beautiful, multicultural, vibrant city of Chicago, known for its architecture, musical- theatrical-, and fine-arts, as well as culinary creativity, outdoor activities, and Midwest charm.
