‘AI and other technological platforms rapidly evolve requiring educators to adapt quickly to changing modalities’
C-L Psychiatry has long been a mainstay for medical student, resident, and fellowship education owing to the breadth and depth of psychiatric knowledge covered in this clinical area.
As the field continues to grow while incorporating various emerging subspecialties, educators must remain responsive to these developments to effectively meet trainee needs, say the team behind one of the general sessions selected for this year’s Academy Annual Meeting.
Durga Roy, MD, FACLP, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is the lead speaker along with Priya Gopalan, MD, FACLP, Patrick Buckley, MD, and Idris Leppla, MD, for a presentation, Innovate to Educate: Modernizing C-L Psychiatry Using Innovations in Education.
“The current clinical climate reflects a time in which hospital systems are burdened with higher volumes and constant changes in staffing, workflow, and electronic platforms,” say the presenters. “As these technologies evolve rapidly, C-L Psychiatry educators must remain innovative in their teaching strategies by adapting to both greater geographical reach and cutting-edge technologies such as telemedicine, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and online virtual learning environments, while balancing the need to deliver education on the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practices transmitted to learners.
“This innovation has the potential to expand to teaching skills that may also be acquired by non-psychiatric providers and other clinical staff.”
AI and other technological platforms rapidly evolve requiring educators to adapt quickly to changing modalities. C-L Psychiatry educators and clinical leaders need to stay abreast of these methodologies and apply them in educational settings while balancing traditional learning methods and adult learning principles. Utilizing an interactive format, this general session will focus on innovations in education as it relates to medical training and C-L Psychiatry. Blending experiential learning with core didactics, this session will focus on practical skills for C-L educators.
Attendees will leave with ideas for using online platforms, video-based technology, and AI into their educational initiatives that are immediately applicable to their academic and educational work.
