For Trainee and Early Career Members:
The Trainee and Early Career Psychiatrist (ECP) Mentorship Program connects psychiatry trainees and Early Career Psychiatrists with C-L Psychiatry specialists to enhance medical knowledge and assist with career choices.
Trainee/Early Career members can access additional mentoring opportunities. The Webb Fellowship Program supports a select number of advanced residents and C-L Psychiatry fellows in a one-year program involving scholarly work, mentorship, networking and professional development, and ACLP engagement. Trainee Travel Grants are awarded to a limited number of medical students, residents and C-L psychiatry fellows to offset the cost of attending the annual meeting.
For Career Members:
The Career Consultation Program provides members 5 to 25 years out from training the opportunity to receive consultations from experienced Academy members on topics such as program development, research, leadership skills, education, and career growth
Professorship Awards for Both Mentors and Mentees:
The ACLP Foundation Research Professor Award, developed in memory of Dr. Wayne Katon, aims to bring leading researchers to the annual meeting and provide research mentorship to early career researchers. Senior researchers may apply for the ACLP Foundation Research Professor Award, and junior researchers may apply for the Early Career Researcher Mentee Award. Members can get formal and informal mentorship through committee and interest/identity group involvement:
The Visiting Professorship Program offers financial awards to support institutions seeking to host a visiting professor. The Program hopes to facilitate close encounters and collaborations between expert C-L practitioners and colleagues and trainees at the host center.
For All Members:
ACLP SIGs, Caucuses and Forums bring together professionals to discuss clinical care, teaching and research in subspecialty areas, while a variety of Committees and Subcommittees involve volunteers in support the structure and function of ACLP. Webinars are held regularly throughout the year and include case conferences and discussions on numerous topics relevant to the C-L Psychiatrist.
There are also mentorship and networking opportunities at the ACLP Annual Meeting: please check the Annual Meeting Programs for schedule updates. Examples from previous years include the Welcome Mixer, Welcome Reception, Medical Student and Resident Meet & Greet, Poster Session with Authors, Networking Lunches, SIG Meetings, and Program/Division Directors Meetings
Annual timeline of mentorship opportunities:
The Mentorship Subcommittee was created in the Summer of 2022 in response to a proposal made by education committee leaders to evaluate, coordinate and grow Academy mentorship initiatives. Housed under the Membership Committee, the Mentorship Subcommittee includes members who represent the Medical Student Education, Residency Education, Fellowship Education, Early Career Psychiatry and DEI Subcommittees and works closely with all of these groups to strengthen and coordinate mentorship efforts. The subcommittee oversees a number of mentorship activities, including the annual Trainee and Early Career Psychiatrist Mentorship Program, a series of mentorship-themed webinars, and a Career Consultation program. An early history of the initiative is available here.
The Subcommittee’s charge includes:

The Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry is a professional organization of physicians who provide psychiatric care to people with coexisting psychiatric and medical illnesses, both in hospitals and in primary care. Our specialty is called consultation-liaison psychiatry because we consult with patients and liaise with their other clinicians about their care.
With nearly 2,000 members, the Academy is the voice of consultation-liaison psychiatry in the US with international reach.
Please browse our website, read our journal, Psychosomatics, and come to our annual meeting which is in November each year. In 2020 it will be a virtual event – see www.CLP2020.org for more details.
If you are a C-L Psychiatrist and not yet a member please join our great organization and welcoming, inclusive community. Please visit this page for details on joining.
